Students View Monet

Fifth- and sixth-grade students visited the Cleveland Museum of Art with Mrs. Jamieson, their art teacher. Students were able to view the most recent exhibit – Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse.

They learned how the role of gardens played an important part in Monet’s paintings because he was an avid horticulturist, cultivating gardens wherever he lived.

Mission Raffle

During the month of November, St. Helen students will be raising money for the Sisters of Notre Dame mission in India by selling raffle tickets for a chance to win one of three Build-a-Bears. The bears are a Browns dog, a Cavs bear and an Ohio State bear.

Tickets will be on sale through Nov. 24 for $1 each. The drawing will be held on Nov. 24.

All proceeds from the raffle will go to the mission project in India.

Call the school office at 440-564-7125 to purchase tickets.

Bucket Drumming

“After hearing about bucket drumming, I thought, yes, my kids would love this,” said Mrs. Wenner, music teacher at St. Helen School. “The children learn music theory and have a great time doing it.”

Wenner uses orange five-gallon Home Depot buckets and purchased green drumsticks.

“Different sounds and textures are heard depending on foot placement and exactly where they hit the bucket. We are currently working on an arrangement where the kids not only hit their buckets, but the floor and their neighbor’s bucket. It’s it loud? Yes. It’s it fun? You bet. But, our new music room is sound proof, so we can get as loud as we want,” according to Wenner.

St. Helen School completed a major renovation over the summer months changing the former church into two new classrooms and a music/aftercare room.
