Franklin B. Walter Award

John (J.T.) Wenger, son of Dr. Ryan and Mrs. Maureen Wenger, was named the 2018 winner of the Franklin B. Walter Award for Geauga County.

It is the third straight year that a student from West Geauga has received the prestigious countywide award named after Dr. Franklin B. Walter, Ohio State superintendent of public instruction from 1977-1991.

Each year, county Educational Service Centers throughout the state honor one student from their respective counties to be so honored. Students are chosen on the basis of their “academic achievement, personal accomplishments and community service.”

West Geauga Superintendent Rich Markwardt and Geauga County ESC Superintendent Jennifer Felker joined J.T. and his parents at the awards ceremony in Columbus.

Jump Rope for Heart

Westwood recently held its 23rd annual Jump Rope for Heart event.

The American Heart Association event is held yearly to raise money to fund projects to fight heart disease, the number one factor for deaths in the United States. Fifth-grade students raised a total of $1817.
