Success at State Competition
The West Geauga symphonic band took its first trip to the state contest in Class A performance. The goal of the performance was to play advanced music at a very high level.
Said director Jason Branch, “We were really excited to have the opportunity to perform. Our score breakdown from the four judges at district contest was I, I, I, I. Our score breakdown at state contest was II, II, II, I. This past year was the most refined the band has played during my time at West G. I’m really proud of their focus, energy, work ethic and enthusiasm toward making music.”
The music students wrapped up their year with a spring concert featuring the Jazz Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Band. The Jazz Band also helped to celebrate the contributions of the community at the Senior Citizen Dinner at WGMS, and during Memorial Day weekend, a group of volunteer band members performed at the Chester Township Memorial Day service.
Diamond Club Alumni Game
The West Geauga Diamond Club, which was created for fundraising to benefit the local baseball community, held its second annual alumni baseball game.
Alumni players, friends and community members came out to make it a fun day. Beckham Thompson, with his puppy, Ludwig, and his dad, threw out the first pitch to get the game started.
The alumni game is a great way for present and past players to connect, raise funds to support the community and create a legacy for West Geauga baseball players.
Said head coach Guy McIntrye, “On behalf of everyone in the West Geauga baseball program, we would like to thank the community for supporting us and coming together for something more than the game of baseball.”
Lax Team Finishes Season Led by 15 Seniors
The West Geauga lacrosse team finished its season with an improved record and a second round playoff appearance.
Coach Amber Baker said, “We had a great season led by 15 seniors. We beat Benedictine to advance to the second round of playoffs which was a big accomplishment for us.”
Standouts on the team included goalie Mike Concilla, attackmen Jake Curtis and Trent Fritzsche, and defenseman Bryce Townsend.
The seniors are leaving behind a promising group of players led by juniors Michael Lyman and Graham MacLellan and freshman Thade Fedor.
