Skoczen Named Athletic Director
Tim Skoczen has been named the West Geauga athletic director for the 2018-19 school year. He was the interim athletic director starting in January 2018 for the school district.
Skoczen’s job will focus on helping West Geauga’s student athletes in 21 varsity sports to learn how to integrate athletic and academic performance.
Dr. Richard Markwardt commented, “Tim brings a wealth of experience to the role. We are pleased to welcome him to the Wolverine family.”
Staff Attends Writing Institute
Lindsey teacher Chris Howell and Principal Kim Menta travelled to The Teacher’s College at Columbia University in New York City to attend the Lucy Calkins Summer Writing Institute.
The institute is a world-renowned program that helps to support the implementation of Calkins’ writing curriculum. West Geauga elementary buildings are fully implementing the program in the 2018-19 school year.
The institute spanned five days and opened with a keynote from Ms. Calkins at Riverside Church the first morning. The rest of the week was spent in various sessions learning about the writing process and what components are imperative to help students become amazing lifelong writers.
One of the benefits of the curriculum is that teachers work with students in small groups or one-on-one to help them develop their writing skills through a structure that makes it easy to replicate the process for all students.
