Facility Master Planning Update
After months of work and community meetings, the West Geauga Facility Master Planning Committee is now preparing to send its final recommendations to the West Geauga Board of Education.
“We have had good participation from residents in planning how to upgrade our facilities to meet the educational needs of our students” said Superintendent Rich Markwardt. “I expect that the recommendation will include some new construction and some renovations. The board of education appreciates the time and ideas that our residents have contributed to this process.”
The recommendations from the committee will be presented to the board of education at the Feb. 25 meeting. Once the presentation has been made, the board will incorporate the recommendation into its plans for the future of the district’s facilities.
Pacifico Wins Spelling Bee
The West Geauga School District 2019 spelling bee winner is from Westwood Elementary School.
Principal Deborah Nanney commented, “After 31 rounds, Parker Pacifico, a fifth-grader, was declared champion after spelling ‘reprimand’ and ‘Pegasi’ correctly.”
Logo Chosen for Fundraiser
Steven Hensley, an 11th-grade graphic design student at West Geauga High School, had his logo chosen to represent this year’s Night at the Races fundraiser.
Steven’s graphic design teacher Lori Nells said, “[The] graphic design course was designed to enhance our already strong arts program and to help advance the students in terms of arts and technology. Students are involved in projects that give them a taste of a variety of different design challenges.”
During the last two years, students in the graphic design program have created images for school and community related events and materials.
