School Board Recognition Month

January is Ohio School Board Recognition Month. The West Geauga Local School District honored its board of education members: Dan Thoreson, president; Dr. Thomas Phelps, vice president; and members Tom Allen, Ben Kotowski and Kathy Leavenworth with refreshments and certificates of appreciation from the district and from the Ohio School Boards Association. The event took place at the beginning of the Jan. 9 board meeting immediately following the board’s annual organizational meeting. The West Geauga community appreciates the many hours of energy and effort that the board invests to provide educational opportunities for the community’s children.

Students Earn National Recognition

The West Geauga Board of Education honored two of the district’s top scholars at the Jan. 9 board meeting.

James Pusterhofer is a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist. Jorge Mirabelli is a National Merit commended scholar and one of 20 Ohio students to be nominated for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Both are also included in the National Hispanic Recognition Program. The West Geauga School District is proud of these young men.
