OMEA Solo, Ensemble Contest

On Jan. 24, the West Geauga High School band had 42 of its students participate in the OMEA District VII Solo and Ensemble Contest. The Solo and Ensemble contest allows students to perform either by themselves or with a small group of three to seven other students.

Every event is judged by an OMEA adjudicator, who scored each performance on a five rating system, ranging from a rating of I – Superior to a rating of 5 – Very Poor.

The 42 high school band students performed in a total of 20 events throughout the day. Eighteen West Geauga events received the highest rating of I and two events scored a 2.

The OMEA is the third largest of the 52 federated state affiliates of the National Association of Music Education. OMEA members are involved at all levels of music education, serving more than 1.8 million public school students in 612 public school districts and 51 colleges and universities in Ohio.
