West G Technology Gets a Facelift
In July 2015, the West Geauga Board of Education approved approximately $360,000 through its permanent improvement fund for the purchase of technology to be utilized in the district’s schools. The money was used to replace outdated computer labs and to enhance the infrastructure that is the backbone of connectivity. It also funded the replacement of the staff’s aging computers used for the delivery of instruction.
“The process of updating has already begun with the replacement of labs at both Lindsey Elementary School and the middle school,” said Sean Whelan, director of technology. “Teachers are currently using a wide variety of resources to reach their students, including Google Classroom, Docs, Forms and an ever increasing variety of web resources that are targeted to the educational needs of our students. The diverse opportunities to interact in new and exciting ways are only possible if our staff and students have access to the technology that is up to date and reliable. It is really rewarding to work in a community that values these opportunities.”
The district plans to continue updating labs and classroom equipment throughout the year, while avoiding disruption of instruction.
“Over the next three years, the board of education is committed to making significant investments in technology to ensure student access in the classroom and improves staff productivity,” said Karen Penler, treasurer.
In the next phase, staff computers will be ordered and aging high school labs will be replaced. The technology infrastructure will be enhanced during the summer of 2016.
