“They do so much for us and the school year round, we wanted to show our appreciation,” Westwood Principal Denise Brewster said.
WGMS 8th-Grade Trip
As part of their history lesson, the eighth-grade students at West Geauga Middle School visited Washington, D.C., and Colonial Williamsburg, Va. At the Jamestown Settlement, students demonstrated punishments used during colonial times through role-playing.
“They were embarrassed to wear the signs and thought that it would prevent them from ever committing the crimes,” said Jim Kish, WGMS principal.
Senior Recognition Dinner
The West Geauga Community recognized the senior citizens at a special dinner hosted by the West Geauga BOE and the Rotary Club of Chesterland. Dr. Rich Markwardt welcomed those in attendance and thanked the many volunteers who helped make the well-attended event possible.
The featured speaker was Sherriff Dan McClelland and K9 Unit Midge. McClelland spoke of his career and the changes he has encountered during his time.
“I have known Sheriff McClelland for many years. I am glad that we could play a small role in honoring him for all of his efforts on behalf of the residents of our county. He is one of the reasons that Geauga County is such a great place to live and raise a family,” commented Markwardt.
Class Act, under the direction of Mrs. Melanie Kennedy, provided the entertainment in song.
WGMS Band Goes to Contest

The West Geauga Middle School band students performed throughout the day, and 28 students received the highest superior rating of “I” and four students received the rating of “II,” an excellent rating.
The students that participated have been preparing for months for the contest and the district would like to thank all of the support they had from their school and their parents. The students had great performances Congratulations to all 32 students.
