A Black Tie Affair

The theme of the West Geauga High School senior prom was “A Black Tie Affair” and the colors were red, black and white. Class officers Sydney Hanford, Gianna Paterniti, Drew Heatwole and Rachel Cannata worked with senior class advisors Christina Sherwood and Chelsea Talty to plan and organize all the details.

West Geauga High School nominated seniors Luke Bear as prom king and Jasmine Whittington as prom queen. The event was held at Landerhaven, where the students had dinner and danced until midnight. After prom was held at PLAY and offered loads of entertainment for the students and some amazing prizes. The seniors had much fun and enjoyed their action packed night.

Hillcrest Student Athletes of the Month

The Hillcrest Insurance Group West Geauga Student Athletes for the Month are sophomore Kayla Lorenzo for fastpitch and senior David Horten for baseball.

Kayla has been the leader of the girls softball team throughout the spring season. The team is having an excellent season and she leads the team in several categories, such as the team’s highest batting average of .490, most hits with 25, most doubles with 10 and team leading RBI batter with 24. Kayla has helped turn the program in the right direction.

Outside of the diamond, she is an honor roll student who intends on attending college where she will continue her softball career.

David is a senior leader on the baseball team. Coaches refer him to as a “coach’s dream player.” He always shows up and gives 110 percent. He brings a calm and collective positive attitude to each baseball practice and game.

Outside of baseball, he is a member of the National Honors Society. While playing golf and baseball for the West Geauga Wolverines, he was able to maintain nearly a 4.2 GPA. Horten is also the recipient of the OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award. His plans are to attend the University of Cincinnati to study chemical engineering.

Lindsey Spring Concert

Under the direction of music instructor Deanna Harrrison, the fourth-grade students at Lindsey Elementary School began the performance playing six songs on their recorders.

The fifth-grade band led by Teresa Consenza played four songs, which included “Premiere March,” “Spook Mountain,” “Huckleberry Hedgehog” and “Bandroom Boogie.”

The fifth-grade chorus sang three songs and ended with “Our Principal’s a Pirate.” Donned with a pirate hat, Principal Ron Dahlhofer appeared throughout the song. The students also performed “Street Beat 99” using five-gallon pails turned upside down as their drums.

A final performance by “Voices of Lindsey” charmed the audience. Voices of Lindsey is a group of students who meet after school to learn songs and simple dance routines.

Fourth-graders started the program playing “Blueberry Waltz” on their recorders.

“The students have been doing recorder karate and earn a tassel for each new song they learn. I had to keep adding new music; they have exceeded my expectations,” said Vanessa Pintabona, music instructor.
