West G Telephone Survey
A telephone survey of West Geauga residents is being implemented by the West Geauga Board of Education during the next month. The survey, which is being conducted by Baldwin Wallace College on behalf of the board, will involve a random sample of approximately 400 individuals. Topics will include the status of open enrollment and the question of potential interdistrict consolidation.
If residents receive a call on their cell phones from a number that they do not recognize, they are encouraged to listen to the voicemail and if it is a caller conducting the survey, please note the calling telephone number and expect a return call within the next few days. Residents’ opinions are valuable to the board and participation in the survey is encouraged.
Students Meet Holocaust Survivor
Eighth-grade students at West Geauga Middle School visited the Shaarey Tikvah Synagogue the week of Nov. 28. The students met with Holocaust survivor Ellis Lewin, who shared his story with the children.
Mr. Lewin’s children attended West Geauga Local Schools. The wonderful learning opportunity was arranged by Mrs. Kristian Frazier and the English/language arts department at West Geauga Middle School.
Connecting Poetry to Verse
Singer and songwriter Brett Fromson visited West Geauga Middle School last week. It was Brett’s second year coming to the middle school to talk to students in Theresa Lesko and Lisa Waxman’s seventh-grade English language arts class.
While studying poetry and learning about lyrical verse and its relevance in the real world, students enjoyed its connection to the music they enjoy on a daily basis. Students were able to identify basic rhyme scheme and even more complex rhyme schemes as they listened to Brett’s performance of some of his original songs. The students greatly enjoyed his visit.
Brett has been fortunate to work with music legends Randy Newman, John Fogerty, Steve Miller, Noel Stookey and others as a student in the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music. He is the nephew of middle school teacher Lisa Waxman.
