Free Snowshoe Borrowing
First-come, first-served snowshoe borrowing is still free for Geauga County residents at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.
Borrowing can take place any time from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and last up to two hours, with all snowshoes returned by 4 p.m. One must be at least 18 years old to check out a pair; anyone younger must be accompanied by an adult. Youth sizes are available.
Scout Days
Dress for the weather and explore Geauga parks to earn scouting credit. Registration is now open for all of them by phone only.
The maximum registration per person is four scouts, and face coverings are currently recommended for all are indoor programs.
At the Rookery on Feb. 12, Junior Girl Scouts will work toward their Geocacher badge from 9:30-11:30 am. Bring a GPS unit or enabled device or borrow one from the park district. Then, from 12:30-3 p.m., Webelos may join for a Walkabout Core Adventure, starting indoors for a brief opening program, then proceeding outside for a hike.
On March 12 at Swine Creek Reservation, Bear Scout Cubs will complete requirements for their Fur, Feathers & Ferns Adventure from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Then, from 1-3 p.m., Cadette Girl Scouts will join in the sugarbush to learn about trees as part of the Trees Legacy badge.
