Food Pantry Open

The food pantry at Chester Christian Center church will be open to the community. The pantry is open to anyone who is in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to attend.
Chester Christian Center is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.
Geauga Benefit Auction
Aug. 26
The 22nd annual benefit auction for D.D.C. Clinic – Center for Special Needs Children will be held at the Buster Miller Farm, 17719 Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Barbecue chicken lunch stand and carryouts are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..; the auction starts at 2 p.m.
Bid on quilts, furniture, home decor, tools, buggies and more, including a 24×32-foot garage, a patio with fireplace or a 16×20-foot timber frame pavilion.
Event also includes silent auction, basket raffles, baked goods, train rides and other activities for children.
Bainbridge CUCC Flea Market
Aug. 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bainbridge Community UCC is hosting a flea market at the church located at 17751 Chillicothe Road, Bainbridge Township. Setup is at 8 a.m.
Reserve an indoor 8-foot table for $25 or an outdoor 8-foot table for $15.

DTJ Chicken and Duck Dinner
Aug. 28, noon to 2 p.m.
DTJ Taborville is having a chicken and duck dinner at 9850 North Blvd., Auburn Township. Frank Moravcik will provide music from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Cost is $15 for an adult dinner and $8 for a children’s chicken dinner. A half duck dinner is $21. Takeout is available.

EAA Flying Start Program
Aug. 28, 1 p.m.
Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 5 is hosting a Flying Start informational program on learning to fly in Hangar 3 of the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield. The event will cover the steps and requirements in learning to fly, provide tips on how to make it economical and will culminate in a free introductory flight. The program is open to adults 18 and older

Western Reserve Rug Hookers
Sept. 1, 10 a.m.
The Western Reserve Rug Hookers (WRRH), ATHA Chapter 119, will host its first meeting of the year at the Bainbridge Library, 17222 Snyder Road in Bainbridge Township. One of the librarians will inform members of everything the library has has to offer, other than books.
The meeting theme is sunflowers. Members are encouraged to bring sunflowers to share. Following the meeting, hooking will continue until 2 p.m.
Bring a lunch; coffee and tea are provided.
WRRH is affiliated with the national rug hooking organization, Association of Traditional Hooking Artists (ATHA). The group meets monthly to visit with friends, hook together, and enjoy educational programs. New attendees are welcome.
Mock Funeral

American Legion Post 459 is holding a mock funeral at the Great Geauga County Fair.
St. Patrick Chinese Auction
Sept. 10, 11 a.m.
St. Patrick Church is hosting its annual Chinese auction at the church located at 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson Township. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the auction and a light lunch. The drawing begins at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 50/50 raffle. Winners need not be present.
An entrance fee of $2 includes six raffle tickets. Auction, high end auction and raffle tickets will be for sale.
Auburn FD Clambake
Sept. 10, 6-8:30 p.m.
The Auburn Fire Department is hosting its annual clambake at the fire station located at 10950 Washington St. in Auburn Township.
Regular bake dinner costs $35 and includes a dozen clams, half a barbecue chicken, corn, yams, coleslaw, roll and beverages. Extra clams will be available for $12 per dozen, as well as hot dogs and chips for the kids.
