Register For Senior Trash Pickup Days

Local township and village road crews will again work with the Geauga County Department on Aging employees and volunteers to remove unwanted items from seniors’ garages, outbuildings and driveways during locally scheduled pickups.

Items should be placed outside the night before the pickup. Do not leave items curb side.

Seniors ages 60 and older who wish to participate in the trash day pickup program need to register with the department on aging. Seniors who complete their yearly registration prior to the cleanup dates only need to make a phone call one week before the trash pickup start date to be placed on the community pickup roster.

April trash pickup days are:

Munson Township: April 17-21. Sign up by April 10.

Hambden Township: April 26-28. Sign up by April 19.

South Russell Village: April 26 and 27. Sign up by April 19.

Diabetes Self-Management Class

A six-week self-management class that focuses on diabetes will be held Fridays, April 14 through May 19, from 12:30-3 p.m. at the Geauga County Office Building, 12611 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon. During each class, seniors 60 years of age and older will get support, find practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue and sugar control, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment choices and learn better ways to communicate with doctors and family about one’s health.

Young of Heart 

May 8-11

St. Anselm Young of Heart has a trip planned to Thousand Islands, N.Y., which includes cruises and tours to Boldt Castle, Singer Castle, the Antique Boat Museum, a winery and more. Cost is $785 per person or $797 for nonmembers.

On July 12 and 13 the group will stay at the Caboose Motel in Titusville, Pa. Also included is a train ride, the Drake Well Museum, the Debence Music Museum and lunch at the Tara Country Inn. Cost is $295 per person or $301 nonmembers.

A trip is planned to Niagara Falls, N.Y., to the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. Included is a performance by Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff, Niagara Power Project, the Made in America Store, a winery and time for gambling.
