Experience Stream-Sampling

May 6

Native Fish Day will take place at Holden Arboretum in Kirtland. Register for one of two sessions – either 9 a.m. to noon or 1-4 p.m.

Learn about the native fish in Ohio and how to identify them, and experience various stream-sampling techniques. Prepare to get wet and bring waders and rubber gloves if available, as they will be required for the electrofishing session; other equipment will be provided to those who register.

The Ohio Chapter of the Native Fish Coalition (NFC) and Geauga Park District are co-hosting the event.

Spring Birding

Continuing a Greater Cleveland tradition since 1933, the annual Spring Bird Walk Series returns for four more spring walks – April 30 at Frohring Meadows, April 30 at The Rookery, May 7 at Eldon Russell Park, May 14 at Big Creek Park and May 21 at Swine Creek Reservation.

All are Sundays from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and among the naturalist staff’s Nature’s Not to Be Missed opportunities.

Located where there is the best bet for birds at each particular stage in migration, the walks connect experienced bird watchers with novices of all ages for bird observation, identification and interpretation.

Participants are welcome to bring their own bird guide and binoculars. Registration is not required.
