As part of their Community Action Project, Kenston High School seniors (l to r) Charlotte Cowan, Charlie O’Brien, Ryleigh Offutt, Annabelle Soltis, Graysen Bischof and Max George volunteered to assemble common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) seed packets for the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). Native milkweed plants are critical to the survival of monarch butterflies as their host plant – providing a vital food source and toxin defense for their offspring. Milkweed also plays a crucial role in the annual migration of the adult monarch butterfly. The students created nearly 1,000 seed packets that will be distributed at future Geauga SWCD programs and events.
