Happy New Year 2013
I’ve been on hiatus for a month, but here I am greeting you for the new year. This month, we have gone from putting down the visor to lessen the glare in the car window to downright frigid weather. While the Kiwanis members enjoyed the Winterfest on Saturday with 45 degree weather, Chardon has been hit with an arctic blast.
Best wishes to all in for the year that is now in full swing and may some or all of your resolutions hold true. May you enjoy good health, great happiness and generous blessings and contentment in the new year.
Birthday Wishes
Clara Marie Shaner Rayl will turn 99 on Feb. 7.
I remember her 70th birthday party with family and friends meeting and greeting at George’s Dinnerbell diner. It was wonderful. Now, 29 years later, I hope to celebrate her 99th birthday on Feb. 7.
Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She has enriched my life so very much.

Comment for the Day
I hope you all bundle up and stay warm during the deep freeze and be sure to keep your pets warm and safe as well.
I look forward to the Northeast Ohio Boy Scout Breakfast fundraiser that will be held at St. Mary’s Banquet Room in Chardon on Feb. 7. I will give more details on this very worthy breakfast hosted by Tom Benda next week. Last year the breakfast raised over $24,000 for Boy Scout programs in our area.
I also learned a great deal at the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and SAR (Sons) presentations at the January meeting of the Genealogical Society meeting held in the Boswick Room of the Chardon Library. My mother did all the research for my family joining the DAR years ago. My ancestor, Col. Hugh White, provided munitions to George Washington in Philadelphia. I am so proud of my heritage.
God bless you all and have a great week.
