Berkshire Earns State Auditor’s Award

For the second year in a row since she’s been treasurer at Berkshire Schools, Beth McCaffrey and her team helped the district acquire the Auditor of?State Award with Distinction.

Auditor of State Dave Yost said Berkshire returned a clean audit and its “excellent record keeping” has earned it the award.

“Clean financial books are vital to accountability in government,” Yost said in a statement. “The Berkshire Local School District is clearly committed to maintaining accurate records and?I am proud to present this award to the district.”

The award is present to local governments and school districts upon completion of a financial audit that is considered “clean,” by meeting the following criteria:

The entity must file timely financial reports with the auditor of state’s office in the form of a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report;

The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit finandings or questioned costs;

The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to: Ethics referrals, questioned costs less than $10,000, lack of timely report submission, reconciliation, failure to obtain a timely single audit, findings for recovery less than $100, public meetings or public records.

“It’s great to be honored for the work that you do,” McCaffrey said. “It’s a great accomplishment for the entire staff.”

Appointments Made to Park Boards

Geauga County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Tim Grendell has made the following appointments to non-compensated positions on the following boards and commissioners:

Chester Township Park Board: Lance Yandell is appointed for the term commencing Jan. 1, 2013, and ending on Dec. 31, 2015.

Yandell has been a resident Chester Township resident for 48 years. He has served as a township trustee, president of the Chesterland Chamber of Commerce and Chester Township Fire and EMS Service.

Russell Township Park Board: Terry A. Ries is appointed for the term commencing Jan. 1, 2013, and ending on Dec. 31, 2015.

Ries is a professional landscape architect and fiscal officer for the Russell Township Park Commission. He is a longtime resident of Russell Township.

Geauga County Sewage Treatment System Appeals Board: John A. Ralph is appointed for the two-year term commencing Jan. 1, 2013, and ending on Dec. 31, 2014.

Ralph is a longtime resident of Geauga County. He served on the CASA for Children board and owned a property management business.

Ralph currently is the constable for the Geauga County Probate and Juvenile Court.

Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities: W. Bart Alcorn, of Chester Township, is appointed for the term commencing Jan. 1, 2013, and ending on Dec. 31, 2015.

Alcorn has served as president of the West Geauga Kiwanis and manages a business in Chesterland. He also has been a leader in various programs for Geauga County youths, such as Eddy’s Field in Chester.
