Historic Tidbit

Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14. Valentine’s Day is believed by some historians to have originated from a celebration in Rome during the 5th century, which paid tribute to St. Valentine, a Catholic priest who was known to be a sympathetic and heroic man. Other historians believe it was a way to “Christianize” the pagan holiday of Lupercalia, which was a fertility festival. Included in the traditions were boys and girls drawing names from a box and exchanging gifts. Through the years, it has evolved into a day of expressing love with hearts, flowers and candy.
