Congratulations

Munsonite Frank J. Gliha, Geauga County auditor, was recently installed as second vice president of the County Auditors Association of Ohio for 2013. The CAAO was established to promote the interests of taxpayers of Ohio and includes all 88 Ohio county auditors. Frank has served as our county auditor since 2009 and prior to that was a Munson Township trustee.

Welcome Aboard

Don Alexander, who has served several years as a Munson Township Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) alternate, was recently appointed by the trustees to fill Sofie L. Horvath’s unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2015.

Sofie resigned after serving nine years on the BZA. Appointed as BZA alternates are Michael Waclawski through Dec. 31, 2013, and Danielle Pitcock through Dec. 31, 2014.

Claudia Toth was appointed to the Munson Township Park & Recreation Board through Dec. 31, 2015. Claudia is also affiliated with the Munson Community Emergency Response Team.

Munson’s Community Day

Plans are underway for Munson Township’s annual Community Day to be held at Munson Township Park on Bass Lake Road in August. The exact date is yet to be determined.

Volunteers are needed to help with parking, serving refreshments, set up games, raffle items and more. To volunteer, call the township office at 440-286-9255.

Classes at Geauga Theater

Registration is now open for a variety of classes in the arts for the winter and spring sessions at the Geauga Lyric Theater and Art Center, 101 Water St. in Chardon. Classes in theater, dance and visual arts for adults and children are offered.

At the Senior Center

Tuesday Mornings at the Movies will start at 10 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson. The “surprise” movie will be chosen from a wide variety of genres and will be shown on the “big screen.” The movies will be shown the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

On Jan. 17, also at the Chardon Senior Center, a program on healthy lifestyles for seniors will be presented by University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. The topic for discussion will be “Ten Steps to Improve Your Health.” A new health care subject will be introduced every third Thursday of each month.

Informational Meeting on Well Drilling Scheduled

Munson Township will sponsor an informational meeting with Geauga County Commissioners on oil and gas well drilling Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Notre Dame Provincial Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Munson. The meeting is intended to provide unbiased information on well drilling.

Guest speakers will be state Sen. John Eklund, R-Munson, and representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Geauga County Common Pleas Court Judge Forrest Burt will serve as moderator. The meeting is open to the public.

At the Rookery

The Geauga Park District invites preschoolers and their adult companions to a Timbertots Nature Explorer Adventure to be held Jan. 19 from 10-11 a.m. in the Great Blue Heron Lodge of the Rookery in Munson. There will also be a search for outdoor animal clues.

With the Arts

The highly successful annual exhibition, known as the “discARTed Recycled Art exhibit,” opens Jan. 26, from 2-4 p.m., with music and refreshments at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center, Russell Township. Meet the artists and enjoy their creative work from recycled materials.

The exhibit continues daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through March 31.

Munson’s Indoor Flea Market

The Munson Township Park & Recreation Board will host its annual Indoor Flea Market Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Munson Township Hall and Fire Station Bay, 12210 Auburn Road.
