Spring is here. With the wind blowing on April 14, my laundry dried before it rained later in the morning.
Our sympathy goes out to the families of Lester Mast and Raymond M. Miller. Lester died April 11, with his funeral being held April 14. He was 71 and lived on Burton-Windsor Road.
Raymond died the morning of April 14 and his funeral was April 17. He was 81 years old and lived on Jug Road. Our church took lunch over to the Raymond Miller family on April 15.
Born to Matthew and Betty Miller was son number three, named Matthew Jr. Grandparents are Joe and Saloma Miller of Shedd Road and Ray and Laura Miller of Gridle Road. He is our great-grandson.
Baby Caleb, son of John Mark and Ruth Ann Hershberger of Shedd Road, spent several days in the hospital the week of April 7 with respiratory syncytial virus.
Richard Miller of Shedd Road was back in his doctor the morning of April 14. He may start to put a little weight on his leg that was broken, but he still must use his crutches.
Farmers are plowing and green houses are being filled up with things being sent to the auction, and thus, the work begins. Lawns are greening up and the purple martins are coming back, which are all good signs of spring.
Grandson Chester came home from school this forenoon after twisting his ankle. He is putting ice packs on it. He was later taken to the doctor for an x-ray and needed to have a cast on his sprained ankle.
Granddaughter Linda got scalded the afternoon of April 12 when she accidentally poured boiling water over part of her body. She is coming along pretty good.
Tuesday, April 14, 1964 (Taken from the diary of grandpa John J. Miller):
We plowed corn stalks all day. Nice weather. We shipped 5 cans of milk. Plowed with two teams.
April 14, 1958 (Taken from my mother’s diary):
Monday, Nice day. We started to do laundry, then our engine went on the “blink.” We planted strawberry plants in the afternoon. Norman Yoders and Roman Smuckers were here for supper. (Normans were from Virginia.)
April 14, 2010:
Today was the funeral of neighbor Mose Byler. Nancy at Joe’s Window Shop. (Raymond Miller, who died this morning, was a brother to Nancy, dying four years after Nancy.)
Only a few more days until our school will be out for the summer.
Time to finish this up. You all have a good week.
