New Construction Appraisals Underway
Appraisers from the Geauga County Auditor’s Office will be working throughout the county over the next several months to update property records for properties engaged in new construction or remodeling during 2012.
Appraisers will be in personal marked vehicles and will have ID badges, Auditor Frank Gliha said.
Residents who might be concerned if the appraisers are from the county auditor’s office are urged to contact the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office or their local police department.
For more information, call the auditor’s office at 440-279-1600 and ask for the appraisal office.
Setting ‘One More Plate’ For Hungry
As friends and family gather for the holidays, the Geauga Hunger Task Force is asking residents to consider setting “one more plate” to feed a hungry Geauga County resident.
Donations to our food pantries are down this year, and need for food is up, especially among the senior population. Would you consider feeding one more person who isn’t a member of your family or part of your circle of friends?
The Geauga Hunger Task Force (GHTF) has been in operation since 1977. It is a volunteer driven organization that operates seven food pantries around the county.
Last year, more than 3,600 families were served 10 days worth of emergency food, adding up to 300,000 meals.
Food is provided through Harvest for Hunger donations and individual, church, and community contributions.
Dollars are leveraged by the bulk purchasing power of the Cleveland Foodbank, which allows GHTF pantries to receive USDA food at the lowest cost.
Monetary donation to the Geauga Hunger Task Force can be mailed to 209 Center St., Chardon, OH 44024.
Public Library Offers Copies of GCI Study
The Geauga Community Impact (GCI) report is available in its entirety at all Geauga County Public Library locations.
Prepared for United Way Services of Geauga County, this 282-page volume details the results of MCS Consulting Service’s survey of health and human services in Geauga County.
GCI was established in 2003 as a collaboration of community leaders from local businesses and government, faith groups, safety forces, health and social services organizations in Geauga County, according to the report.
The original report was compiled in 2004. The November 2012 update has now been published and in addition to being available in all Geauga County Public Library buildings, is also online at: www.GCImpact.com.
Geauga County Public Library offers community information to patrons to help citizens be informed about population needs and trends, Marketing Officer Lori Weber said.
“This update provides data that several community groups including United Way Services of Geauga County use to make strategic planning decisions. Offering it to the public is an example of how GCPL takes information sharing seriously. These printed reports save patrons the time and expense of looking up the information and running their own copies,” she said.
“We pride ourselves on offering up-to-date reports and records to the public,” added Deborah O’Connor, director of Geauga County Public Library. “Many people do not enjoy reading documents on their computers or do not have Internet access. So, we have chosen to be proactive and provide print copies for those people who would like to have access to this study.
“In fact, GCPL offers many reports as they are published so that our patrons can be knowledgeable of findings that have an impact on their communities. We hope that citizens take advantage of this service.”
