Historic Tidbit

Christ’s Mass, a festival observed by the Christian Church on Dec. 25 to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ began approximately in the year 200. It is now celebrated in most countries with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day church services, gift giving, outdoor decorations, decorated indoor trees and hanging stockings for Santa Claus to fill with goodies.

The Christmas tree is a custom started centuries ago in Germany and spread across Europe and brought to North and South America. Sending Christmas cards began in the United States in 1850.

Fly the beautiful American flag on Dec. 25 and give thanks to military personnel stationed overseas who will not be home for the holidays.

Merry Christmas to all!
