With the Arts
The Geauga Council for Arts and Culture (GCAC) is seeking donations for its Swap & Shop table at the heART of Geauga Arts Jam to be held June 27 from 12-6 p.m. on Chardon Square.

Toastmasters’ New Location
The Chardon Toastmasters Club, which had been meeting at Munson Township Hall, is now meeting every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, 102-C East Park St. in Chardon.
Membership in the club is free and open to all. The weekly meetings offer a supportive and learning experience in self-confidence and public speaking.

Peer Support Group
The Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will hold a peer support group meeting at 7 p.m. June 4 at the Geauga County Board of Mental Health, at 13230 Aquilla Road. The monthly meetings offer support, education and advocacy to those affected by mental illness and their families.

Free Sunday Dinner
St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson, will offer a free Sunday dinner June 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Room. There will be a choice of soups, breads, desserts and more.

At Best Wildlife Preserve
The Geauga Park District invites Tiimbertots, ages 3-5 with parents, to the Wild Wings outdoor program June 7 and 19 from 1-2 p.m. at the Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve, 11620 Ravenna Road, Munson.

Senior Golf Outing
The Geauga County Department on Aging invites seniors to a Senior Golf Outing, June 24 Grandview Golf Course, 13404 Old State Road, Burton. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by shotgun start at 9 a.m.
The cost of $23 per golfer includes a golf cart and lunch. Registration with payment is due no later than June 19. Checks are to be made payable Department of Aging and mailed to the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Raven-wood Drive, Chardon, OH, 44024. Mark the envelope “Golf.”

Historic Tidbit
The Geauga County Commissioners meeting in December 1834 was the start of construction for Route 44 when a report was presented on a survey of a dirt road from Ravenna to Painesville, traveling through Auburn, Newbury, Munson, Chardon Township and others.
Workers were paid roughly 25 cents per day, which paid for living expenses while they camped in the woods during construction.
