Positive Thoughts Spread

Newbury High School needed a little boost of positive energy and some thoughtful students in Newbury provided just that. They spread the word of how great and amazing Newbury Black Knight students are.

Little post-it notes with positive messages were placed on each locker and on the walls of the hallways. It brought a smile or two to every face in the Newbury School District. What a wonderful surprise to come into in the morning. Black Knight students really are the best.

Newbury Academic Team Excels

Newbury’s Academic Team coached by Ms. Taylor Schildhouse is off to an amazing start this year. Not only did the team get its bid to the 2016 NAQT Small School Championship, it won its first home meet against its league rival Southeast High School, with a score of 2-0.

The junior varsity Academic Team also performed in its first meet ever, going 1-1.

The leading scorer for the varsity team was Mac Sanders, who won the toss up question that allows you to answer bonus questions. Newbury Black Knights are in the Portage County League.

Mole Day

On Oct. 23, chemistry students at Newbury High School celebrated the unofficial holiday, Mole Day. The mole is a unit of measurement for an amount of substance. It is defined as the amount of any chemical substance that contains as many elementary entities, for example, atoms, molecules, ions, electrons and photons.

The number was dedicated to Amedeo Avogadro for his contributions to science. The reason Mole Day is celebrated on Oct. 23 is because one mole is 6.02×1023.

Some of the students in Ms. Schildhouse’s chemistry class made their own moles to celebrate the day. Others brought in tortilla chips, salsa and guacaMOLE. Later in the day, the moles were judged by different staff members on creativity.
