Excellent Solo Performances
On Feb. 13, Newbury ninth-grader Niamh Field and eleventh-grader Melissa Cheek participated in District VII Solo and Ensemble at Mayfield High School. Solo and Ensemble is an opportunity for individual students from Cleveland-area schools to perform a selection of their choice from memory for adjudication. Both students received a rating of “excellent” with their vocal solo performances.
Choir Students Visit CSU
Newbury High School students traveled to Cleveland State University on Feb. 17 to work with Dr. Brian Bailey, director of choirs. Students took a tour of the music facilities and campus before setting to work rehearsing and singing with the university’s top two choral ensembles.
Students took part in a workshop with Dr. Bailey to further prepare for their upcoming performance at the large group adjudicated event to be held at Mentor High School on March 11 and 12.
