Run Like A Caveman
Registration is open and growing for Geauga Park District’s 10th annual Caveman Crawl 5K Trail Run & 1-Mile Fun Walk, at The West Woods. All ages are welcome.
Early registration is $20 and is open online at bit.ly/gpdcaveman, which is also the location of more details, a course map and photos from years past.
Race day registration starts at 7 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m., with free food and awards afterwards. Every participant earns a finisher’s medal.
Come dressed in prehistoric garb for a chance, at 8:30 a.m., to win a special handcrafted Best Costume award in youth or adult categories.
All funds benefit the Chip Henry Institute for Outdoor Adventure, getting kids out into the parks through youth programming including summer camps for youth entering grades five through 10.
The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. Overflow parking with a free shuttle to the park will be at ASM International, also on Route 87, followed by Wiegand’s Lake Park.
Move With Monarchs
Catch up with this season’s stunning monarch butterflies and more during Monarchs & Meadow Insects – at Orchard Hills Park on Sept. 12 and at Swine Creek Reservation on Sept. 19, both from 12:30-4 p.m.
Use the park district’s nets or bring one’s own to catch a variety of butterflies, grasshoppers, praying mantids, katydids, beetles and other meadow insects.
Plus, should one catch a monarch, a naturalist will be on hand to tag and release it. Provide one’s contact information to be notified if the monarch is later recovered in Mexico.
Join in at any time without registration. Sun protection, socks, a hat and long pants are strongly recommended for moving through the meadows.
