Burton Christmas Bird Count Hike

Jan. 2, 8-10 a.m.

Hike the Gorge Overlook and Dogwood trails to discover the winter bird diversity at Welton’s Gorge. Results from the bird walk will also be shared for the annual Burton Christmas Bird Count. Thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas brave winter conditions to take part in the effort from late December to early January. Scientific organizations use this data to assess the health of bird populations, and to help guide conservation action. Registration is required.

Sunrise Hike

Jan. 4, 8-9 a.m.

Geauga Gems Trekking Series

Start the day with a crisp walk in Eldon Russell Park. Join a naturalist for a hike to look for winter animal signs at sunrise. Registration is required.

Geauga Gems Awards & 2022 Kickoff

Jan. 6, 5-8 p.m.

Jan. 8, 9 a.m. to noon

Drop by The West Woods Nature Center to register for the 2022 Geauga Gems Trekking Series. Participants who completed the 2021 series can also collect their hiking stick and hiking medallion sticker at this time. The event is a drop-in, open-house format; visit any time over the two sessions.
