Call For Artists: “The Forest Is Calling And I Must Create”
Jan. 22 and 23
John Muir’s profound words about nature calling “and I must go” have spoken to artists’ creativity for more than a century. To celebrate this inspiration and demonstrate the creative talents of regional artisans of all ages, “The Forest Is Calling and I Must Create” will soon accept tree-inspired or -themed artwork in all media, including wood.
To participate, find the show application on the district website under Activities, then Special Events & Art Shows. Hard copies are also available at The West Woods Nature Center and Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center.
Review all the criteria for entry listed on the application and bring it at time of drop-off on either Jan. 22 or 23. Categories are Drawing/Painting, Photography, Other Media, Woodcraft and Youth (ages 12 and under). Artists need not live in Geauga County, and no fees will be charged, but a limit of three entries per artist will be accepted. Displayed pieces may be listed for sale, but must remain onsite for the duration of the show. Additionally, up to 10 pieces of jewelry or small art, valued at under $40 each, may be submitted per artist for cash-and-carry sales in the exclusive Tree Boutique.
The art show will be open daily for public visitation Feb. 3 through April 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.
For more information, contact special events coordinator Holly Sauder at 440-226-2753.
Just Walk Up
Fewer Geauga Park District programs now require registration, which should expand opportunities to experience naturalist-led hikes and similar programs on a moment’s notice, avoid lengthy waiting lists and alleviate the stress of needing to call to cancel when something else comes up.
To easily find a list of all upcoming programs that don’t require registration, visit the park district website under Programs & Events, then filter by “No Registration Required/Walk-Up.” Registration is still always required for programs with fees or limited attendance.
