Historic Tidbit
Legend has it that St. Patrick, originally named Sucat, was born c. 373 in Britain. At 16, he was taken prisoner by Irish raiders who attacked his family’s estate. He was held prisoner in Ireland for six years during which time he became a Christian, changed his name to Patrick and became a priest.
He became well-known for banishing all the snakes from Ireland. Upon his death on March 17, c.463, that date became St. Patrick’s Day, which is still celebrated worldwide by people of all religions with parades, concerts, fireworks and corned beef with cabbage.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
