Home Delivered Holiday Meals

The Geauga County Department on Aging and local Thanksgiving sponsors Cherished Companions, University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, Mapleview Country Villa and the Chardon VFW will offer a free traditional holiday meal to any Geauga County senior, age 60 and older, who will be home and alone on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23.

There will be no regular Home Delivered Meal delivery or congregate meals on Thanksgiving. Instead, holiday meals are available by preorder only.

Thanksgiving Day meal requests are due by Nov. 17.

For more information or to sign up for a meal, call the department on aging at 440-279-2163 or 440-279-2183.

Advance Directives

Nov. 7, 11 a.m. to noon

The Geauga County Bar Association Advance Directives Committee and Hospice of the Western Reserve will distribute standard forms and present information and answer questions regarding health care powers of attorney and living wills at the Bainbridge Senior Center, 17751 Chillicothe Road.

They will then return Nov. 14 with attorneys from the Geauga Bar to help seniors complete the forms and notarize them. Half hour appointments will be made for the day.

Seniors who wish to attend must register with the Geauga County Department of Aging by calling 440-279-2130 by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 6.

Aluminum Ramps and Lifts Needed

The Geauga County Department on Aging’s Home Safety Program is in need of pre-owned aluminum wheelchair ramps and lifts for local seniors.

Some local citizens have had aluminum ramps or chair lifts installed at their homes and are no longer in need of them. The Geauga County Department on Aging’s Home Safety program receives constant calls from seniors who need ramps or lifts installed at their home.

The Home Safety Program cannot keep up with the number of ramps and lifts needed because new ramps and lifts are very expensive, and Medicare does not pay for the adaptations.

Anyone who has an aluminum ramp or lift that he or she would like to have removed and donated to help a local senior may call the Geauga County Department on Aging at 440-279-2130.

Volunteers Needed to Deliver Meals

The Geauga County Department on Aging is in need of Home Delivered Meal drivers in the Chardon area on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The meal routes start at the Chardon Senior Center, 470 Center St., Building 8, Chardon.

The Home Delivered Meal program delivers warm, nutritious lunches between the hours of 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, to homebound senior citizens in the community.

The department on aging is looking for area agencies, organizations, church and individuals 18 years old or older, with a valid driver’s license, who are interested in volunteering for this program. Training includes filing department on aging Home Delivered Meal volunteer paperwork and a short orientation about the program. Volunteers can deliver meals on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed/substitute basis.

To sign up or for any questions, please contact Nathan Gorton at 440-279-2138 or email at NGorton@co.geauga.oh.us.
