Congratulations
Munsonite Magi Duncan recently won the “Count Maple Max” contest sponsored by the 2013 Geauga County Visitors Guide. Magi found 11 photos of Maple Max in the publication and was awarded a Geauga prize basket worth over $300. She was especially pleased about the weekend package at Punderson Manor, which she and her husband will enjoy. The visitors guide can be picked up at area businesses or by calling 440-632-1538.
At the “Y”
Registration is now open for the Geauga Family YMCA’s Summer Sports Day Camp, for youth ages 6-12, to be held at the “Y,” 12460 Bass Lake Road in Munson. There will be a variety of sports to choose from during each one-week session. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

With the Arts
Entry forms are available for Northeast Ohio artists for the 37th annual Fairmount Art Exhibition to be held June 2-13 at Fairmount Center for the Arts, 8400 Fairmount Road. Entries are due May 28. Entry fee is $15 per item, with a limit of three items.

At the Senior Center
The Geauga Park District will present an interesting and informative program, “Spring Wildlife Folklore,” April 23 at 12:45 p.m. at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Munson. The lecture, with illustrations, will offer the origins of plant names and their historical use as medicinal sources. Reservations are not necessary.
The Geauga Senior Theatre Group, directed by Munsonite Madelon Horvath, a retired English and drama teacher, meets every Tuesday from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at the Chardon Senior Center. New members are welcome. No theatrical experience is necessary. For more information, call Becky at 440-279-2131.
NDES Learning Fair
Notre Dame Elementary School will hold its fifth annual Learning Fair April 24, from 6-8 p.m., at the school located at 13000 Auburn Road in Munson. There will be guided tours and brief introductions to the numerous subjects and activities offered for children preschool through grade 8.

Appliance Collection
The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will hold a one-day collection of appliances on April 27, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Geauga County Engineer’s Yard, 12665 Merritt Road, Munson.

Save the Date
Munson Park & Recreation Board will hold its annual Fishing Derby May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Munson’s Scenic River Retreat, 10900 Mayfield Road, just east of Fowlers Mill Road. The free event is open to all Munson residents.
There will be age divisions for children, teens and adults, with prizes for most fish caught. Bring fishing poles; bait will be provided.

40th Annual Senior Celebration
The Geauga Department on Aging will hold its 40th annual Senior Celebration May 6 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road in Munson. The event includes a non-denominational prayer service, lunch catered by Aladdin Food Service and guest speaker Amanda Marshall, who will focus on human trafficking education, awareness and prevention.
Cost is $10 per registered senior. Registration and payment due no later than April 25 at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson.

WomenSafe Spring Luncheon
The 14th annual Spring Luncheon hosted by Friends of WomenSafe will be held May 15 in the Banquet Room of St. Mary’s, 401 North St. in Chardon. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with Chinese auction, music by harpist Virginia Dickson and lunch prepared by Reserve House Catering.
Dan Ruminski, noted Cleveland historian, will speak on “Millionaire’s Row.”
Cost is $30 per person. Seating is limited and required reservations can be made by calling 440-285-7531.
Proceeds benefit the services and accommodations offered by WomenSafe at The Green House based in Munson Township.
