Congratulations
Munsonite Robert Weir, son of Bob and Peg Weir, was named to the dean’s list for fall semester at Michigan State University. Robert is majoring in civil engineering and was initiated into the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Chi Epsilon National Civil Engineering Honor Society.
A Special Recognition
Berkshire Hills Golf & Party Center, 9760 Mayfield Road, Munson, is featured in the spring 2013 edition of Golf Inc. magazine in an article titled “The Innovators” for creating six teeing areas based on skill level. The course is open to the public. For information, call 440-729-9511.
Munson’s Cemeteries
Munson Township requests all Munson residents and others who decorate graves in either the Fowlers Mill Cemetery or Maple Hill Cemetery to please remove iron plant hooks no later than Aug. 15.
Munson’s cemetery regulations do not allow items larger than the headstones. Live plants and flowers are permitted to be planted by the headstones.

Summer Theater Production
The Geauga Council for Arts & Culture and the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, under the direction of Munsonite Madelon Horvath, a former drama and English teacher, will present a summer theater production featuring local talent. The event, free and open to the public, will be staged July 27 from 7-8 p.m. at the Amphitheater of Big Creek Park on Robinson Road in Chardon Township. Refreshments served. Held indoors if inclement weather.
NAMI Geauga County
The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Geauga County will hold a peer support meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Geauga Board of Mental Health, 13244 Ravenna Road, Munson. The monthly meetings provide education, support and advocacy to those affected by mental illness and their families.

Munson’s Community Picnic
Munson Township will host its annual Community Picnic Aug. 3, rain or shine, from 3-8 p.m. at Munson Township Park on Bass Lake Road, just north of Munson Elementary School. The fun-filled schedule includes a free picnic meal, free ice cream, Euclid Beach rocket car rides, magician Micahel Mage, UHHS MedEvac Helicopter, Munson fire trucks, dunk tank, raffles, auction and a grand prize of $500 donated by Munson-based Payne & Payne Builders Inc.
The free event is suitable for all ages. Proceeds from the raffles and auction benefit the Munson Township Scholarship Fund.
St. Luke Sunday Dinner
St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson, extends an invitation to enjoy a free Sunday dinner on Aug. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Fellowship Room. There will be a choice of soups, breads and desserts.
Donations are not necessary, but appreciated. To help prepare or serve the dinner, or for more information, call 440-285-4641.
Friends Of WomenSafe Swing Dance
Pat Preston, of Chevy Network & Preston Superstore in Burton, is the silver sponsor of the Friends of WomenSafe Swing Dance fundraiser taking place Aug. 10 at the E.O.U.V. Hall in Novelty.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., dancing will begin at 8 p.m. to the music of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s provided by Ed & Lindsey Leonard. Chagrin Falls Fred Astaire Dance Studio instructors will also be there.
Tickets for dinner and dance are $55 per person. Limited tickets for dance only are $25. Reservations are required by calling 440-285-3741.
Proceeds benefit accommodations and services offered to victims of domestic violence at WomenSafe’s Green House on Ravenna Road in Munson.
Help Me Learn Day
Geauga County Job & Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Drive, Munson, will hold its annual Help Me Learn Day Aug. 12 to supply needy children in Geauga County with the school supplies their school requires.
Donations of general school supplies, backpacks, flash drives and calculators are needed. Monetary donations, with checks made payable to “Special Services,” and “Help Me Learn” in the check’s memo can be mailed to GCJ&FS, P.O. Box 309, Chardon, OH,, 44024.
