A Big Thank You

Jon Schroeter, a founding member of the Munson Park & Recreation Board, has retired after 16 years of voluntary service on the board. He has given countless hours to developing Munson’s parks, working on park projects and attending board meetings. Jon has also been the “chief hot-dog griller” at Munson’s annual Community Day.

The Board of Trustees honored Jon at their Dec. 11 meeting with a resolution, which will be filed with the township’s permanent records.

Thank you, Jon, for 16 years of dedication and good work. Best wishes for a happy retirement.

Teddy Bear Patrol

Please consider making a donation to the Teddy Bear Patrol, coordinated by the Mental Health Association in Geauga County, 11850 Mayfield Road, Unit 1, Munson. The teddy bears, purchased with donated funds, are supplied to county first responders (fire and police) who present a bear to little ones involved in traumatic situations and are frightened or injured. A teddy bear Christmas tree is currently on display in the lobby of the association’s offices.

To donate, make checks payable to the Mental Health Association in Geauga County and indicate “For Teddy Bear Patrol.” Mail or bring to the MHA.

For more information, call Linda Reed at 440-285-3945.

Top Dog Ace-y Boy

Munsonite Elizabeth Dailey, a fourth-grader at Notre Dame Elementary School, was recently presented with the #1 Dog tag and title by County Auditor Frank Gliha for her essay on why her dog, Ace-y Boy, is number one in Geauga County. Ace-y Boy was rescued by Elizabeth’s mother at the Geauga County Dog Shelter in 2010.

Elizabeth’s touching story related Ace-y Boy’s tenderness when she or her siblings are hurt or sick. The presentation at NDES was attended by Elizabeth’s mother, Kristin Dailey, Ace-y Boy and Elizabeth’s classmates.

There were 34 entries in this essay contest by fourth and fifth-graders in Geauga County schools. A Munson resident, who wishes to remain anonymous and believes “No child should be left behind,” has donated sufficient funds for all the children who wrote to receive licenses for their dogs.

Please register and purchase a license for one’s dog. It is a tremendous help to the dog warden in finding and returning a dog if it gets lost.

Holocaust & Heroism Commemoration

Students in grades six through 12 in Northeast Ohio schools are invited to enter a creative arts contest by the Cleveland Holocaust Commemoration. Entries of poetry, creative writing or visual arts on the theme of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, a resistance in 1943 by Jews fighting Nazi oppression, are due by Feb. 1.

Winners will be announced March 15 and cash prizes of $2,500 will be awarded at the annual Holocaust & Heroism Commemoration at 2 p.m. April 7 at Park Synagogue in Cleveland Heights.

For more information or to apply for the contest, visit jewishcleveland.org/YHCreative arts.

Volunteers Needed

The Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) is seeking volunteers to host its monthly meetings in 2013. Hosts are responsible for contacting a selected guest artist to confirm date and time of the artist’s presentation, to assist the artist with items to be displayed and to prepare and deliver a brief introduction of the artist.

All GANG meetings are free and open to the public. To help, call Joanne Durante at 440-729-6481.
