At Munson Township Hall: July 9, 23, Board of Trustees, 6:30 p.m.; July 9, Park & Recreation Board, 6:30 p.m.; July 15, Zoning Commission, 7 p.m.; July 18, Board of Zoning Appeals, 6:30 p.m.
All township offices will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
All township meetings are open to the public. The Board of Trustees meetings agenda have a time space for public comment on any topic of concern in the township. Meeting dates and location are subject to change and can be verified by visiting www.munsontwp.com or by calling the office, 440-286-9255.
Organization Meetings
At Munson Park, Bass Lake Road: Volleyball Court, now through Aug. 25, Geauga YMCA Youth Volleyball League, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; July 8-11, Munson Sports Camp, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., daily; Emmons Pavilion, July 14, Chardon High School Cheerleading Squad Volleyball Fundraiser, all day.
Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre
The Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre, 12100 Mayfield Road in Munson, is now open for an evening’s enjoyment of nostalgia and modern technology in the comfort of one’s auto. The theater offers the latest flicks on its giant screen with digital projection, FM broadcast stereo and a concession stand.

Volunteers Needed
CASA for KIDS of Geauga County (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seeking volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court. Volunteers must be at least 25 and have no criminal record. Professional CASA staff provides 32 hours of pre-service training. An application and interview must be completed prior to training.

Free Sunday Dinner
St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson, extends an invitation to enjoy a free Sunday dinner on July 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Fellowship Room. There will be a choice of soups, breads and desserts.
Donations are not necessary, but appreciated. To help prepare or serve the dinner, or for more information, call 440-285-4641.
Shutterbugs Camera Club
The Shutterbugs Camera Club will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. July 11 at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center. The club is open to all ages and levels of photography enthusiasts. Photographs are welcome for friendly critiques.

NAMI Peer Support Group
NAMI Geauga County (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will meet at 7 p.m. July 11 at the Board of Mental Health & Recovery Services, 13244 Ravenna Road in Munson.
NAMI Geauga offers education, support and advocacy to those affected by mental illness and their families. Meetings are free; registration is not necessary.

Treasures Among the Trees
The popular Geauga People for Parks Flea Market will be held July 13, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center picnic area. There will be something for everyone at bargain prices. Proceeds benefit the Geauga Park District.

With the Arts
The Geauga Council for Arts & Culture (GCAC) will be accepting entries on Aug. 5 for its annual Juried Art Show to be held at the Geauga West Library Aug. 7-16. There will be a reception for exhibiting artists and their families on Aug. 7 from 5-7 p.m.

Save the Date
The Munson Park & Recreation Board will host another free Concert in the Park featuring the well-known Sunset Country band on July 20, rain or shine, from 6-9 p.m. at the Scenic River Retreat.
Bring lawn chairs and insect repellent. Refreshments will be available for sale. Proceeds benefit the park board’s events throughout the year.
Historic Tidbit
July 4 is Independence Day when Americans celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the document declaring the nation’s independence of Great Britain on July 4, 1776. The document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson and signed by 56 patriots from the 13 colonies.
Now simply known as the Fourth of July, it is a national holiday celebrated with fireworks and parades. Fly the U.S. flag on this special day in thanks for this great country and its remarkable history.
