With the Arts
An opening reception featuring the artwork of Ursuline College alumnae, spanning 50 years, will be held June 14, from 5-9 p.m., at the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery of Ursuline College, 2550 Lander Road in Pepper Pike. Free and open to the public, the exhibit continues through Aug. 9. Refreshments served.

At the Senior Center
The Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson, invites seniors to the following events:
The John Wayne movie series continues with “McClintock” at 10 a.m. June 18.
An informative program about “Happiness and Aging” for those who dare to be 100 years young or more, is at 12:30 p.m. June 19.
The Geauga Senior Harps will perform at 12:45 p.m. June 20.
A senior art show will be on display during the month of July. The exhibit is open to artists and crafters with a limit of two to three items per participant since space is limited. For more information on the show, call 440-279-2131.
St. Luke Rummage Sale
St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson, will hold its popular “Trash & Treasure Sale” June 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a bag sale on June 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be a bake sale and lunch counter. More information is available by calling 440-285-4641.
Concert in the Park
The Munson Park & Recreation Board hosts the first Concert in the Park of 2013 at the Scenic River Retreat on June 22, from 6-8 p.m. Visitors will enjoy a special evening of lively music by The Joey Tomsic Polka Band, voted Polka Band of the Year 2012.
Refreshments will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting the projects and events coordinated by the Park & Recreation Board. For more information, call the office at 440-286-9255.
NDCL Golf Classic
Registration is open for the 13th annual Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Golf Classic to be held Aug. 5 at Little Mountain Country Club in Concord. Starting time is 9 a.m.
There will be a barbecue lunch catered by the Winking Lizard Tavern, skins, games and other raffles. Donations of gift certificates, golf passes and other suitable items are needed for the raffles. Proceeds fund student scholarships at NDCL.

Historic Tidbit
Flag Day is June 14, a day on which Americans honor the beautiful flag of the United States of America. Declared as the official flag of the country on June 14, 1777, and first designated for observance in 1895, it has never been proclaimed a legal holiday.
June 14 also honors the founding of the U.S. Army in 1775, which began as a group of riflemen serving the Colonies.
