The Burton/Middlefield Rotary Club once again will be able to donate thousands of dollars to many worthy causes after another successful Maple Splash Raffle.

Preston Superstore and owner Pat Preston donated a 2021 red Ford Mustang to the Burton/Middlefield Rotary Club (BMR) in the fall of 2021. The rotary club sold 6,000 tickets with the help of other rotary clubs and East Geauga Kiwanis over the next eight months.

“This project grossed $140,000,” Maple Splash Raffle Chairman Larry Fox said. “After expenses, all funds distributed to many fabulous worthy causes.”

He added, “Every person involved in raising these funds is a volunteer.”

For the second year, the BMR announced the grand prize winners at the Maple Splash Raffle (MSR) held July 2 on the grounds of Century Village in Burton Village. More than 20 non-profits from Geauga County, supported by the MSR, set up tables and provided fun and information for those in attendance.

Several other creative opportunities for winning took place such as a Chinese basket raffle, Mystery Game, 50/50 and several others. There also was live entertainment, food and refreshments.

Laura Jones, of South Russell Village, won the Ford Mustang. She purchased her ticket from Geauga West Rotary Club.

Other winners were John Yaros, $2,500; Curt Johnson, diamond pendant; Kevin Cook, $500; Tom Steinbauer, vacation package; Sue Wayman, chainsaw package; Ed McIntyre, 60-inch television; Dawn Brazie, $500; Bruce Barham, Pedego Comfort Cruiser; Justin Geiss, kayak; Bill Dieterle, $500; Daryl Hart, DeWalt tool package; Dianne Kellogg, generator; Jason Seyer, $1,000; and Robert DeMattia, $500.

“The revenue generated by the MSR will be used by BMR for several service projects and will make contributions to other Geauga County service organizations,” Fox said.

BMR projects to distribute more than $60,000 netted from the MSR to the following Geauga County service projects and organizations: Red Tulip Project, DDC Clinic for Special Needs Children, University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, Next Step, Claridon Helps, Geauga Faith Rescue Mission, Burton Congregational Church Food Bank, Geauga County Department on Aging, Leadership Geauga Student Sponsorship, Berkshire Schools, Cardinal Schools, Geauga Historical Society, Youth Scholarships, Valor Retreat, Geauga County Lost Team and Geauga Veteran’s Food Pantry.
