The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office April 22-28, 2022.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

April 22

1:53 p.m., Bell Street, Newbury. Neighbor’s chickens continue to come into her yard, destroying her property and defecating all over her porch/yard. Caller has run out of options and wants to speak with a deputy. Caller said she will give her neighbor a week to resolve issue. Caller told to document damage and photograph chickens in her yard.

ASSAULT

April 22

7:30 p.m., Rutland Road, Parkman. Two males against one male fighting on the property. Fight stopped, one male left in a white truck. Caller was involved in the fight. No squad needed. Individuals that fought the male and caller are the caller’s neighbors. Deputies investigated the assault between male, his brother and a guy who was delivering a pizza. It was found two of the males are juveniles and attempted to assault other guy by pulling him out of his truck and breaking his driver mirror and ripping his door handle off. Report to follow.

CITIZEN ASSIST

April 26

1:19 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Out with someone taking down a screen from a mailbox. Female was trying to take a snow shield off a mailbox at this home. Female said a male across the street said she could have it. Female told it was not owned by the male across the street.

DISABLED VEHICLE

April 22

5:13 a.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Driver hit a coyote and was looking for it.

FRAUD

April 23

10:12 a.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Driver’s license information was used fraudulently after a data breach at T-Mobile. Caller requires a report.

April 26

5:43 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Caller has a voicemail from a male claiming to be with GCSO regarding an “urgent matter.” Caller was advised not to call this party back and she wanted it documented. Deputy advised caller it was a scam.

April 27

6:59 p.m., Longview Trail, Auburn. Harassment/fraud situation involving fraudulent check. Also have a Venmo case open. Caller received a fraudulent check for $1,970 that did not clear. Caller then made a Venmo payment to a “moving company” for approximately $1,200 and that is money she lost. Venmo has an open case with that amount in dispute. The man who wanted to buy item from caller sent check via mail with a return address in New York. Item was supposed to be sent to Columbus.

HARASSMENT

April 28

3:37 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. 18-year-old female caller having issues with a classmate, texting him and he wants to speak with a deputy. Complainant advised to block the juvenile who was sending him text messages. No threats made in those messages.

INFO REPORT

April 23

9:36 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Inmate wanted to make a complaint about three corrections officers using excessive force during an incident. She said she felt the corrections officers used excessive force when they took her to the ground and handcuffed her after she attempted to punch them. She felt they could have handcuffed her standing up. Deputy asked if she had any broken bones or if she was struck in the neck or head and she said no. After awhile inmate became upset with deputy and no longer wanted to talk with him and she did not want to make a complaint anymore.

SUSPICIOUS

April 23

2:55 p.m., Clark Road, Chardon. West side of Ohio 44 female stopping cars for a ride. Called in by OSHP. Female now in area of Auburn Road. Female told to get out of boyfriend’s car after argument at Maple Festival. Dropped off at BP for Uber pick up.

April 24

5:39 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Male walked into the woods carrying a knife, stumbling. Seemed under the influence. Carrying a backpack. Knife had an 8-inch blade. He currently is sitting at picnic table. He is not brandishing the knife. Deputies approached male and secured the knife. Later learned male has an active warrant through GCSO and was placed under arrest and taken to jail.

April 26

2:52 a.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Neighbor is sitting in his car blasting music for the last half hour. Caller says male was unresponsive when she flashed a flashlight on him. Located male in the vehicle who was playing loud music and sleeping. Deputy woke the male up and he went inside for the night.

THEFT

April 23

2:38 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Theft of Ukrainian flag from the Geauga County Democratic Party office. Report taken.

TRAFFIC STOP

April 28

12:55 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Female passenger arrested for improper handling of firearms in motor vehicle.

TRESPASSING

April 22

8:25 a.m., Creekside Drive, Auburn. Caller is having an ongoing issue with her neighbor trespassing on her property, messing with her signs, and then on Wednesday his dog was on her property. Advice given to post cameras or record on cell phone next time neighbor or the dog is on the property. No trespassing signs already posted. Deputy unable to make contact with neighbor.

WELFARE CHECK

April 26

1:34 p.m., Sumner Road, Hambden. Hears female inside but she is not answering the door. She is a hoarder and they cannot get inside home. They think she may need an ambulance. Female located on the floor of her bedroom, where she had been for past two months. She was alive but could not move. It was found a neighbor had been feeding her and giving her supplies. A probate order was obtained and female was removed from residence. While cleaning up garbage that had to be removed to get female out, an envelope with $85 was found and later turned over to female. House is boarded/secure.
